It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Alexander “Buddy” Joseph Beck who moved on from this world Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 in his 69th year. He was surrounded by his wife, their children and grandchildren, and his sisters throughout his last week as they stayed by his side during his final days.
A beloved son, Buddy was born March 1st, 1957 to the union of Wilfred and Maureen Beck in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland. The oldest of five, Buddy was a protective and dedicated brother to Stephanie (Charles), Yvonne (Chris), Sharon (Sam), and Tracy (James). When Buddy was a child, the Beck family moved to Toronto, Ontario, where years later Buddy would meet and later marry Heather in 1992.
Buddy was a cherished father to Candice (Colin), Alex (Shelby), Nicole (Dustin) and Donna, and a loving and proud papa to Scarlet, Carter, Maria, Atlas, Wrenley, and Ayden. He will be fondly missed by many friends and family across the country, coast to coast.
A nomadic and wild force of a man with an unshakable spirit and an insatiable hunger for life, Buddy lived every single day to its fullest with a refusal to regret and a commitment to always show up authentically and unapologetically himself. His journey is one so abundant and overflowing with travels, experiences, adventures and stories that it could fill several lifetimes, each more daring and unparalleled than the last.
From a brief stint in the military, cutting down trees in the mountains of British Columbia, racing cars up and down the Trans-Canada highway to settling down in rural small-town Ontario, raising up children and dogs, attending Sunday service and making sure to always call his mother, Buddy did it all. A master of having roots and wings and a lover of all life had to offer.
There simply was no man quite like Buddy, unmatched in his way of life as he was in character. A friend to any and a protector of all, with family being his utmost important and core value. He was the phone call you always knew would be answered and the person you could always rely on being in your corner. He was a true maverick. Fearless, recklessly brave and confident, and as equal in pride as he was humility. Completely free of judgement or arrogance. He was larger than life, brighter than light, a knight and a jester all at the same time. The first to offer a hand, or a joke. The funniest person in any room. And the one right there alongside you working out a solution no matter the problem. He was imaginative, charmingly eccentric, untamed and rarely took no for an answer. He was ambitious and unwavering, both in the labours he chose and the joys he pursued, always pushing boundaries be they in speed, rebellion, or adventure. He never faltered in knowing exactly who he was, which is a true rarity in itself, as was he. Buddy was an indescribable man with a legendary life impossible to ever sum up or encapsulate and that is what made him so entirely special and extraordinary.
Alexander “Buddy” Joseph Beck, an inextinguishable flame and a man paramount in spirit and fight, leaves behind a legacy not simply measured in years, but in the immense depth of love and loyalty he gave to all and the fierceness, drive and passion for life he inspired. We will miss, cherish and honour him for the rest of our days.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fenelon Court Long Term Care Home of whom made all the difference in the world to not only Buddy but to us who loved him, our great appreciation and respect for you all is endless.
The family invites all those who wish to honour Buddy’s memory to a viewing held on Sunday May 3rd, 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., both taking place at Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, located at 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton Ontario, L0E 1R0, Canada. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception at 27 Forestry Dr., Pefferlaw Ontario, L0E 1N0.
