Betty Gordon Tennant (Bates)

June 24, 1925 – April 6, 2024

TENNANT, Betty Gordon (nee Bates) in her 98th year passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024 with family by her side at Southlake Residential Care Village in Newmarket.

Beloved daughter of Dr. Gordon Anderson Bates and Dorothy Margaret Sawdy. Predeceased by grandson Mark (1985), husband James Tennant, brother John Bates, and sister Margaret (Peggy) Wysong (nee Bates). Betty was a beloved mother of Wendy (Richard), Kimberley (Robert) and Dorianne (predeceased Jim, 2013). She was a loving grandmother of Tara, Grant (Arianne), and James. Betty was a loving aunt, mother-in-law and friend.

Betty’s greatest passion was teaching at C.C., and being a guidance counselor at L.P.C.I. in Toronto. She enjoyed coaching sports, such as basketball and badminton. Betty became a Girl Guide leader shortly after WWII. Betty’s love of reading led her to start up the “Bookworm” in Madoc, Ontario. Betty enjoyed being creative by making stain glass windows, crocheting blankets, and knitting. Betty was always one for a good adventure and a good laugh. She loved living life to the fullest, and spending time with family and friends.

Betty will be dearly missed and never forgotten by her many friends and family. Many special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Southlake Care Village for their wonderful care of Betty, not only in her final days, but throughout her entire stay there.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Georgina Feral Cat Committee or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has already taken place. As per Betty’s wishes, there will be no service or funeral. Betty will always be loved and held dearly in the hearts of her beloved family and those who loved and knew her.
