Peacefully at Margaret Bahen Hospice, Newmarket, on Friday, December 29, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bart Johnson, predeceased by his parents Don and Margery Johnson (nee Hall). Beloved husband of Mary Jane (nee Lackey) and the late Elsica. Dear father of Chris, Kate (Andrew), Jolene (Bill), Greg (Amanda), and stepfather of Rachel and Eva (Denis). Loving Grandfather of Ruby; Carolyn, Kelsey; Donnie, Abby, Lucy, Penny; Willa, Ellie, Joe; Theo, and Rosie. Brother of Doug Johnson (Debi), Pauline Franzen (Frank), Mary Ellen Slykhuis (Robert) and Annette Ogaki (Glenn) and uncle and great uncle of many. Fondly remembered by his many cousins, extended family and treasured friends. Bart was committed to serving his community and the dairy industry throughout his life. Past Chair of the Sutton Fair and lifetime member of the Fair board. Executive member and Provincial President of the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario. Belhaven Hall board for many years. Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority Grants approval committee. Bart’s great passion for Belridge Farms, the Holstein breed and the dairy industry are expressed by his roles as past Leader of the Sutton 4-H Club, past Chair of York Region Milk Producers, past Chair of York Federation of Agriculture, member of Georgina Agricultural Advisory Committee, and twelve years on Gencor Board of Directors (now EastGen)
A Memorial visitation will be held in the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton, Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. A Celebration of Bart’s life will be held in Knox United Church, 34 Market Street, Sutton, Monday, January 8, 2024, at 12:00 noon with visitation in the church from 11:00 a.m. Memorial Donations to Loaves & Fishes Growing Project, Bond Head https://foodgrainsbank.donorsupport.co/page/BartJohnson, or Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation (for: Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, Newmarket), or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.
