It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas William Foster, who died peacefully surrounded by family at Southlake Regional Hospital in the Cardiac ICU on July 14, 2026, at the age of 91.
Doug was a beloved, husband, paw, brother, uncle and friend – known for his warmth, strength, strong opinions and love of family and a good party. His heart and home were always open, to all of his extended family and good friends. Doug will be fondly remembered as a pillar of strength and support to all of us throughout the years.
Doug worked for the Steed and Evans construction company for over 45 years, building infrastructure that still stands today. Bridges, roadways, tunnels and the retaining wall at Niagara Falls are all monuments of his intellect, strength and perseverance. All through his life and into retirement he took great pride in his property in Keswick, maintaining the house, along with the flower and vegetable garden and meticulous lawns.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane of 66 ½ years; daughters Kathleen & Jennifer; son in laws Kenny Barney & David Dobbie; grandchildren, Easton & Grace; siblings, Walter, Gordon, Linda, Elaine, and Margaret. The entire Foster family and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will carry his memory forward with love.
Predeceased by his parents Douglas Foster and Irene Davidson and siblings Rene, Claire, Carol, Roseann and Annie.
Doug’s family extends heartfelt thanks to Southlake Regional Hospital’s Cardiac ICU and the many nurses and doctors for the care and support during his final days.
A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 21 East St, Sutton, ON.
Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 1–4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doug's memory to Southlake Regional Health Centre (Regional Cardiac Program or Regional Cancer Centre) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
