Ernest George Foster

Feb 22, 1939 — Jul 10, 2026

Ernest (Ernie) George Foster, a devoted husband and father, proud truck driver and steady presence in the lives of all who knew him, passed away on July 10, 2026 at the age of 87.

Born with a work ethic as large as the trucks he drove, Ernie spent decades on the road, carrying goods across countless kilometers and building a life defined by responsibility, grit, and quiet generosity. He took pride in his work – not just in the kilometers logged, but in the purpose behind them. Every long haul was a promise kept, every delivery a testament to the reliability that made him respected by colleagues and loved by family.

To his wife and children, he was a hero. Despite the demands of the road, he always found time to be present – whether through late-night phone calls, surprise gifts from companies he had delivered to, or the stories he brought home that made the world feel bigger and more wondrous. His love was steady, uncomplicated, and unconditional.

Ernie is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Mary nee Harrison; his children Carolyn Clementson (Collin), Michelle Dobbie (Jason), Robert (Rae Knight) and his grandchildren Harrison Clementson (Rachel), Phillip Clementson, Katie Foster (Mitch Weis) and Elizabeth Dobbie; his siblings Stanley aka Buck (Susie), Art (Karen), Tom (late Jean), Brenda Pegg (late Jim) and Gord (Linda). He is predeceased by his granddaughter Reagan Dobbie, his parents, Stanley and Mary Foster, and his siblings Jim (Cindy), Marion Hartwick (late Jim) and Luella Hartwick (late George). He is fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends that were like family. All will forever carry his lessons of kindness, perseverance, and humility. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his lips that showed the humour and warmth that lived within him. His legacy lives on in the memories shared around kitchen tables, in the laughter he sparked, and in the countless lives he touched simply by showing up with an open heart.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the Keswick Adult Day Program, The Eldon in Bradford, and the 6th Floor Nursing Staff at Southlake Hospital for their kindness and care of Ernie and his family.

A Celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at a later date and time. As per Ernie’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honour him by donating to the Canadian Association of the Deaf, Epilepsy Canada, or Literacy & Evangelism International Canada.
