Glen Herman Hein

March 16, 1966 — June 4, 2025

It is with deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Glen Herman Hein, at age 59.

Beloved life-partner of Karen Marmara, loving father of their son Derek, and his daughter (with Carolyn) Wendy Evancoe (Tyler) and grandson Owen: brother of Isabelle Philipps (Ralph) and uncle to Kirk and Laura; Predeceased by his parents Hans Otto Hein and Annelene Hein.

Growing up in Scarborough Glen had many friends. In the 80’s he moved to Sutton with his parents, where his father encouraged him to buy land and build a home. Glen placed a prefabricated house on the land a built out the interior with his skills and hard work, along with help from friends and family. Glen received his machinist diploma from Durham College and worked in his field of study. Later he started his own small machine business with his entrepreneurial spirit. When the economy shifted Glen started his own courier business and bought a cube van to make delivers. Glen then went on to become a contractor for a courier company where he enjoyed the freedom of working independently.

Glen was a hard worker, taking on life’s challenges with his partner Karen, and using the skills he learned from building his home and fixing his cars. He experimented with fuel efficiencies refining vegetable oil to convert into fuel for his business. Glen pursued many interests and enjoyed learning new facts and skills and passing them on to others.

Glen will be missed by his family and friends, colleagues and neighbours that he met during his life in Scarborough and Sutton.

A celebration of life will take place in September. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Glen’s honour to the Canadian Association for Suicide prevention.
