Krohmer, Helmut Ludwig
Peacefully at his home near Baldwin, Ontario, surrounded by family on Friday, October 3rd, 2025, at the age of 85 years. He was born on October 16, 1939, in Weissbach, Sudetenland, to the late Martha (Schwanke) and Karl Krohmer.
Helmut is predeceased by his beloved wife Alice (Tetreault). Loving father to Karl of Baldwin and Michelle of Peterborough. Loving Pepe to Megan Baillie (Tyler) of Peterborough.
He is survived by his sister Erika (the late Manfred). And predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Erich (Kathe), Richard (Leni), Adele (Silo) and Helga (Klaus).
Helmut was a special brother-in-law and will be fondly remembered by his surviving in-laws Gerry (Brenda), Vic (Kathryn), Claude (Sjanie), Liette (Ernie) and those predeceased Ray (Elsie), Len (Linda), Armand (Karen) and Norm (Kathy).
A beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Helmut immigrated from Germany in 1958 at the age of 19. He settled in Goderich for the beginning of his life in Canada before a change in work moved the family to Georgina in 1981.
Helmut was hardworking throughout his work life. He spent many years at Champion Road Machinery in Goderich, Brouwer Turf Equipment in Keswick and Tecom Bearings in Lindsay. Being active in the community was a given. Joining the Boy Scouts in Germany as a young teen set the foundation for a love of outdoors, staying active and service to others. Spending time in nature with family was always a priority, as well as participating, leading and supporting the local judo and soccer clubs in both Goderich and Georgina.
He will be fondly remembered by his fellow Knights in Goderich and Georgina. Helmut was a member of the Knights of Columbus for close to 65 years serving in many capacities over those years. He was a Charter member of Our Lady Immaculate Council 8026, served as District Deputy of District 33 and was a Charter member of the 4th Degree JJ Hayes General Assembly 2460.
Those who knew Helmut will remember him for his gentlemanly ways, his positive energy, his kindness to everyone he encountered and his lighthearted jokes and ready smile.
A special thank you to the staff at Georgina Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic, Orange Health Pharmacy and the home care nurses and support staff for their compassion and care.
