An indelible memory for many remains a recent visit to Costco, where Jimmy’s unbridled delight at every sample booth along the aisles brought a smile to all who accompanied him.
With profound sorrow and heartfelt reverence, we announce the passing of James Kiefer Burns, fondly known as Jimmy, who departed this world on July 10, 2026, in his beloved hometown of Newmarket, Ontario. Born on February 12, 1995, also in Newmarket, Jimmy’s life, though far too brief, unfolded as an enduring testament to warmth, humor, and selfless devotion.
A lifelong learner and a proud graduate of Stouffville Secondary District High School, Jimmy cultivated a solid foundation for the remarkable contributions he would later make in his chosen field. He pursued his career as an electrical mechanical technician at MBM Installation, where his talents, diligence, and reliability earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Yet, it was beyond his professional accomplishments that Jimmy's spirit truly shone. His joy for life was most evident in the vibrance that characterized his everyday moments—whether relishing culinary adventures or challenging himself physically. An indelible memory for many remains a recent visit to Costco, where Jimmy’s unbridled delight at every sample booth along the aisles brought a smile to all who accompanied him. His love of food was well-known among those fortunate enough to share a meal at his table or laughter in his company.
Jimmy was not only strong in will but also in body. He frequently embarked on long walks adorned with his 70-pound weighted vest and ankle weights, ever eager to test his own endurance and embrace the world around him. These walks served as both a testament to his dedication and as cherished moments of reflection and vigor.
Perhaps most enduring, however, was Jimmy’s tremendous sense of humor—always ready with a quick wit or light-hearted jest to gently lift the spirits of friends and loved ones. This infectious levity was well-matched by his even greater compassion. Jimmy’s heart overflowed with empathy, and he was ever eager to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. It is this boundless kindness for which he will be most remembered, and most deeply missed.
Jimmy leaves behind a loving constellation of siblings and extended family, each touched by his generous spirit. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Burns, by his sisters, Shelby, Darlene, Christine, Amanda, and Kyrie; his brothers, David, Ryan, and Jeremy; and cherished nieces and nephews: Carl, Domenic, Isiah, Chloe, Brayden, Blake, Scott, Brandon, Kylie, Brittany, Dina, and Chanelle. Each holds close the irreplaceable memories and singular love that Jimmy imparted.
He now joins in rest those beloved family members who preceded him in passing: his grandparents, Joel and Lorraine O'Haver; his father, Harold Burns; and his nephew, Christian Burns. As they welcome him into eternal peace, his memory remains ever-bright in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Though the loss of James Kiefer Burns brings with it a deep ache, those who knew Jimmy will forever find comfort in his laughter, feel his strength in memory, and seek to emulate his limitless compassion. His legacy resounds in the lives he touched, a gentle yet resolute reminder of the influence one kind soul can impart upon the world.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday July 21st, from 12 - 3 pm at New Hope Methodist Church, 337 Queen St in Newmarket.
