Joan Constance Pearce, 96, of Sutton West, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the Margaret Bahen Hospice with her son Carl by her side. Joan’s life was defined by the love she held for her family and friends. She was the cherished wife of Ed Pearce and was predeceased by the father (Otto) of her children. She was the devoted mother of two sons Carl (Laura Pontiggia) Walasek, and preceded in death by her son Arthur (Vicky) Walasek. She was a loving grandmother to Christopher, Alyssa, and Vanessa Walasek, Megan Keith, Sheri (Gerry) Gaunt, and Stacy Noonan, and great grandmother to Bronwyn and Darwin Keith, Gerald, Jacob and Mason Gaunt, and Tyler and Alexis Noonan.
Joan was born in Montreal in 1929, on Canada Day. She earned a BA Degree (Applied Behavioral Sciences) in 1981 and a MS Degree (Administrative Science) in 1985. She worked in the hematology lab at Toronto East Geneal Hospital for 5 years, ran a blood bank in Turkey Creek, KY for 1 year, and worked 33 years as a hematologist at Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, IL. She excelled at her many hobbies, everything from knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, photography, and playing cards with friends. She loved to travel, to see and experience new places and cultures. She leaves behind a community of many friends and family who will miss her deeply.
Friends and family are invited to honor Joan’ s life at Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 19: visitation from 10am-11am, funeral service from 11am-12pm. Following the service, Joan will be laid to rest at York Cemetery in North York. To honor Joan’s commitment to helping others, the family requests memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, to PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), Chapter B-ON: cash, cheques payable to "PEO Sisterhood Chapter B" maybe mailed to Mare Gudov Treasurer 881 Voyager Ave Pickering ON, L1V 7G2, and e-transfers can be made to peochbon@gmail.com .
