Obituary

A devoted friend to all who knew her well, Kathy was"one of a kind". An independent force, careful listener, wise advisor and loyal mentor/ confidant, our Kathy was a person you could count on both personally and professionally.

Raised in Muskoka, Kathy attended elementary school in Torrance. Kathy's father taught high school History in Toronto and joined his wife and daughter "up north" each weekend.

Kathy attended high school and Lake Shore Teachers' College in Toronto. Her career began in 1960 with the Etobicoke Board of Education. She taught primary grades initially, then specialized in behavior class assignments. During her last 10 years of teaching, before retirement in 1997, Kathy headed the Special Education Resource Program at Greenholme School. She was a well respected educator whose experience and skills were valued by colleagues, parents and students.

Over the years Kathy enjoyed travel and adventures at home and abroad. South America held special meaning in particular, as Kathy sponsored a young child from Peru through her formative years. There were usually one or two beloved Birman cats or Bichon Frise dogs on the scene for Kathy. No fur-baby ever had a better Mommy!

Shopping adventures to find that special something was always a favourite activity. Kathy took great pride in discovering the perfect birthday or Christmas gift for you. She cherished and nurtured every special relationship so dearly.

Ten years after retirement Kathy moved from Richmond Hill to Sutton following the death of her father. She spent 15 years in her lovely home and now had the time to enjoy having a beautiful garden with bird feeders close to her sunroom windows. In 2022 Kathy simplified her life by moving to a welcoming and comfortable retirement apartment in Mt. Albert where she settled in and enjoyed getting to know another group of amazing people in a friendly community.

Kathy's love of reading, learning and spending time with close friends was always a focus while working or in retirement. She welcomed opportunities to visit others, discover new restaurants, have experiences and stay informed about her community while managing every situation with grace and her signature sense of humour.

Our dear Kathy fought bravely for the past 6 months against advanced pancreatic cancer. We are all grateful for the extraordinary support of close friends and wonderful comfort care at Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket. This compassion and kindness will be forever remembered.
