Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Patrick John Joseph Fahey announces his passing on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Caressant Care in Lindsay, Ontario, at the age of 91. His family takes solace in the fact that Pat is reunited with the love of his life, Elizabeth Joan Fahey (Cummings), his beloved wife of sixty-five years, who predeceased him 11 days earlier on October 17, 2026.

Pat was born in Ottawa on March 25, 1935, and lived a life filled with love, faith, family and a deep commitment to serving others.

A Scholar and a Lawyer

Throughout his school years Pat was always at the top of his class. He attended St. Patrick’s High School and on graduating he earned the Gold Medal for Highest Standing in Grade 13, the Province of Ontario Royal Canadian Legion British Empire Service League Scholarship, and a St. Patrick’s College Entrance Scholarship. He continued his studies at St. Patrick’s College where he won the Sophomore and Junior Year Silver Medals, then in 1956 the Silver Medal in Economics and the Governor-General’s Gold Medal for Highest Standing, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce.

He worked from 1956 to 1958 as a Financial Officer with the Federal Department of Insurance, then entered law school at the University of Ottawa, where he took Highest Standing in First and Second Year and the University Gold Medal in his graduating year. He received his LLB in Common Law, magna cum laude, in 1961.

He articled with Quain & Quain in Ottawa from 1961 to 1963 while teaching Legal Accounting to first-year law students at the University of Ottawa, graduated from Osgoode Hall with honours in 1963, and was called to the Ontario Bar on April 17, 1963. He stayed with Quain & Quain two more years, then in October 1965 joined the T. Eaton Company in Toronto as legal counsel.

On April 15, 1969, Pat took over the practice of John L. Crozier and began his own practice in Sutton, Ontario. In 1977 Pat was appointed a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court in Newmarket, where he sat for 32 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of York County Hospital as the representative for the Town of Georgina from 1977 to 1990.

Husband, Father, Grandfather

Pat and his cherished bride, Joan, were married on August 5, 1961, and settled in Sutton in 1969, where they raised their five children. Family was at the heart of Pat’s world, and gatherings in the summer and holidays surrounded by family and friends were among the happiest days of his life.

Pat was a much-loved and incredibly proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a devoted family man whose love for each generation was evident to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his brother-in-law, Father (Charles) Don Cummings (retired), his children Tom Fahey (Kathy), Donald Fahey (Bonnie), David Fahey (Carrie), Carolyn Crate (Jim) and Maureen Rynard (John), his grandchildren Robert, Colin, Peter, Kyle, Caleb, Jeffrey, Jamie, Alison and Michael, and his great grandchildren Stella, Calvin, Colson, Carter, Levi, Violet and Cooper.

Pat was predeceased by his parents, William Thomas Fahey (d. 1956) and Lillian Agnes May (Robillard) Fahey (d. 1996), by his sister Rita Little (Fahey) (d. 1974) and her husband William Little, and by his brother William Fahey (d. 1999) and his wife Leah Fahey (Graham) (d. 2009).

Faith and Community

Pat found great meaning in his relationship with God. His faith guided the way he lived, the values he upheld and the kindness he extended to others. He was an active member of the Georgina Kinsmen, a member of K-40, and a proud member of the Georgina Council of the Knights of Columbus, as well as his church community.

A Joint Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life

At the family’s request, a Funeral Mass for both Joan and Pat will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church — St. Mary’s, 40 Russell Street East, Lindsay, Ontario.

A Celebration of Life for both will be hosted by the family on Sunday, November 8, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Kin Community Hall, 3 Fairpark Lane, Sutton, Ontario.

Both Joan and Pat have been cremated, and interment for both will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date.

In Lieu of Flowers

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society, or to a local charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.
