Graham, Roy

Passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, January 29, 2024 in his 75th year. Born on July 31, 1949 in Mindemoya, ON an only child of the late James Allan and Vera Lois (Shaver) Graham. Roy and his beloved wife Julie (Virag) Graham, married in 1974 in Peterborough and together moved to Gore Bay in 1980, bringing Roy back to his Haweater roots. He was a loving and loved father of Jennifer, Heather (Cory Heggestad)  and Rob. Cherished and proud grandfather to Graham, Julia, and Morgan.

Roy was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, sharp business acumen, and the ability to connect with people and build strong, long-lasting relationships. Roy was a strong, loving and dedicated man who supported and loved his family and always opened his heart and home to new friends. When living on the island, he was active in his community in many ways, but in particular as a member of the Gore Bay Masonic Lodge No. 432 A.F. & A.M. where he had worked his way up to serve as Master in 1991.

Roy enjoyed all sports but certainly had a strong passion and talent for baseball and curling, both of which he played competitively for years.

Roy was also an avid hunter, although at the “Just One More” camp, more poker was played then hunting. From a young age, he spent a special week in November, on the island with his father and friends. It was a tradition he carried on and cherished deeply with his son Rob and so many dear friends, making lasting memories with many stories to reminisce.

Roy will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held in June at Graham’s Camp when the lilacs are in full bloom. If so desired, donations to the ALS society of Canada (www.donate.als.ca/page/116715/donate/1) would be appreciated.
