It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Slaney. Wayne died peacefully in his 78th year, on Sunday evening, June 21, 2026 in Hospice, after a long battle with kidney disease.
Wayne was born and raised in Toronto as the son and only child of Bill and Marjorie Slaney. He enjoyed hockey, hated school, and loved street rods, having bought his 1941 Ford Pickup at 15 years old, which he restored and enjoyed his whole life. After completing high school, he started his Machinist Apprenticeship with IBM, where he worked until his retirement.
In 1975, Wayne married Lynn and in the same week, bought their home in Georgina, where they raised two wonderful sons.
Wayne is survived by his wife Lynn; son Kevin, his wife Amanda and their children Deakin and Jessica; son Pat, his wife Jessica and their children MacKenzie, Bella and Landon.
The family would like to thank the MacKenzie Health Chronic Kidney Disease Program, The Adult Day Program in Keswick, and Dr. Ransom, along with the wonderful staff at Margaret Bahen Hospice. We would also like to express our thanks to Frank and John for taking on a daunting project in motor restoration, the many visits and support by Sandy and Jenny and a special nod to our “other” son Mike.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Margaret Bahen Hospice, 653 Queen Street, Newmarket Ontario, L3Y 2J1, or a charity of your choice.
A reception for family and friends will be held at the Sutton Legion Hall, 21 East Street, Sutton, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Additional Parking available at the Sutton Arena, west of the Legion Hall.
